Jay Sharkey

A recent transplant to California from Newport, Rhode Island, Jay Sharkey started sailing the waters of Narragansett Bay when he was three years old. Forty years and more than 50,000 offshore miles later, he's still sailing. Jay's background consists of more than six years of sailmaking, an extensive list of both inshore and offshore races (IRC/ORR/IMS/One Design/PHRF), and nearly ten years as captain or crew on both racing and non-racing yachts up to 110 feet long. Jay also owned and raced his 21-foot 6.5 meter carbon fiber prototype Mini Class sailboat singlehandedly from Newport to Bermuda in 2007 and 2011. He's even been featured in SAIL Magazine.

As sales manager at the Quantum SoCal loft, Jay's years of experience will help him provide the service and expertise Quantum's customers expect and deserve.

Rachel Bree

Rachel Bree

Although she's a southern California native, Rachel Bree is fairly new to the sailing world. Due to an inborn appreciation of the ocean and an unexpected series of events, Rachel began working in a sail loft in Marina del Rey after returning from a graduate program abroad. Rachel spent three years learning the ins and outs of sail repairs and recuts, UV covers, and marine canvas work, as well as other custom projects ranging from a tent for a puppy parade to nets for marine scientists focusing on the impact of plastics on marine ecology.

Now armed with several years of experience in sail repairs, a deep respect for the sea and a background in medieval history, Rachel brings a multifaceted, dynamic approach to her role of loft office manager for Quantum Sails SoCal. "At Quantum, we want to offer our clients the best sailing experience possible," says Rachel, "and that means taking into account all possible factors. No two situations are the same; we engage in creative problem solving everyday. It’s very satisfying to know you’ve been able to provide just the right solution for a client."
