Juan Mauri is a passionate sailor, always looking forward to talking with other sailors about sail trim, deck layouts, racing techniques, and their sailing adventures. He is president of MAURIPRO Sailing and an active supporter of many U.S. and international one-design classes and sailing organizations. Juan has been a sail consultant since 1991.
While living in South America, Juan won over 15 national titles in IMS, J/24, and Lasers. He represented his native country Peru in the Pan American Games and won the South American Match Racing championships. In 1999, he moved to the U.S., where he has won several National and North American championships.
But for all his racing wins, Juan may be best known for starting MAURIPRO Sailing in 2001, a business that went from one guy selling sails so he could afford the next regatta to a network of sail consultants and marketing offices around the world and one of the world's largest online sailing stores.
Juan's background in industrial design has helped him in the analysis of sails, trimming techniques, sail hardware, and deck efficiency. He is a creative sailor and a natural teacher, often taking time to talk with sailors before and after races and cruising events.
