Melges 24 Fusion Mx Wave Jib

Made from Quantum's Fusion M® cloth with black aramid fibers, the Quantum  WAVE Jib was developed for the upcoming 2016 Worlds in Miami, Florida. The WAVE Jib has a flatter head and a leech profile that twists easily for sailing in open ocean with chop and large swell. This makes the sail more forgiving, twisty and easier to set up. It is also easier for the helmsman to drive to as the breeze comes up since the leech twists off and gives the boat less helm. This sail has been tested and proven in the ocean off Miami in the winter of 2016. The WAVE jib is still easily used in flatter water and lighter winds. Simply move the lead forward 1 to 2 holes further forward than the AP jib and the boat is off.

Melges 24 Spinnakers

Melges 24 A2 Runner

The Quantum A2 is our max-sized Melges 24 class all-purpose runner. Perfect in 6-19 knots, it’s a versatile sail that will allow you to soak low in the 12-14 knot range, letting you sail five degrees lower than the competition while staying on a plane and going fast. The Quantum A2 is a class favorite for its wide range and max power. Made of Airx 650 for durability and great shape holding; available in a variety of colors. Spinnakers come complete with sail bag, adjustable luff and leech lines, class royalty and ISAF measurement sticker.

Melges 24 A2.5 Reacher

Designed like a true reaching spinnaker for bow up sailing in super light and windy conditions, it has a straighter luff, higher clew, and flatter head for reaching. This sail is flatter than the A2 Runner in the head. This allows the sail to twist off for easy trim and reduced helm loading. We recommend using this class spinnaker in very light winds less than 7 knots & when the boat is on the step the entire time, around 18+ TWS.

This sail is available in .75 oz. Dynakote nylon or the recommended AIRX 650 cloth in a variety of colors.

Spinnakers come complete with sail bag, adjustable luff and leech lines, class royalty and ISAF measurement sticker.

Martin Kullman grew up on the water in St. Petersburg, Florida, so it’s no surprise that he started sailing when he was only five years old. He continued sailing throughout his youth and at Old Dominion College, where he was a three time All-American and won the national championship.

After graduating from college, Martin joined the work force, but in 2011 his passion became his career when decided to pursue sailing fulltime. He had such a positive experience with Quantum Sails that he joined the team in 2012. “My favorite thing about being part of Quantum is the great group of people who have the same goals and aspirations,” he said.

With an extensive list of sailing experience including TP 52, MC 38, Carkee 40, Farr 40, Farr 30, Melges 32, Melges 24, Melges 20, J/70, J/111, J/88, J/22, J/105, and VX One he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Quantum. Born in the United States, Chris Rast has lived in Switzerland since he was two years old. A certified Swiss toolmaker and engineer with a degree from the University of California-San Diego, Chris says his education provided the cornerstones to his successful sailing campaigns.

His first Olympic campaign was in 1996 in the 470, followed by two more Olympic appearances in the 49er, one sailing for Switzerland and one for the U.S. A winner of multiple national, European, and World championships, he continuously seeks to challenge himself with new objectives. In 2006, he started sailing –and winning – in the Melges 24 fleeting, including the 2015 Melges 24 World Championship.

In addition to his sailing credits, Chris is also an experienced coach, coaching the Swiss Olympic team in 2000. He was the project manager for performance-driven programs like the Alinghi Decision 35 and the EFT Sailing Team. Along with his wife Danielle, he also runs Swiss Performance Sailing, LLC.

As Quantum’s Melges 24 Class Expert, Chris will help all clients improve on the race course. He doesn’t only work with the professional teams – he’s available to anyone familiar with or just discovering the fleet. “The class lives and dies not by the professionals or the top teams, but those teams that make up the middle of the rankings,” said Chris. “We really want to support the Corinthian teams and the teams that need a little bit of advice to do well around the race course. I like helping teams and helping them get better. That’s what I’m really looking forward to.”

“Since its inception, the Melges 24 has been such a fun boat to sail in regards to its performance. It goes well upwind, and downwind it’s a hoot,” he said. “If you’re looking for a class where you get to sail not only against other Corinthian teams, but also against fully professional teams – people like Jimmy Spithill, Vince Brun, Morgan Larson, and Terry Hutchinson – get yourself a Melges 24 and you can go against the world’s best.”
