Ensign Mainsails

Ensign AP Class Mainsail

Our all purpose (AP) class mainsail is designed for durability and built from Dacron® with a firm, racing finish. This sail comes standard with vision and spreader windows, tapered RBS battens, roll bag, draft stripes, insignia, numbers, Cunningham, and clew slide. Price also includes class royalty. This sail is also offered in a softer Dacron® fabric with a more forgiving cruising finish; please contact a class expert or your local loft for this option.

Ensign Headsails

Ensign #1 Genoa

This proven National Championship design can power up to be fast in light air, and with some backstay on will flatten out to be just as fast in heavy air. With a straight exit, our sails are powerful, and easy to trim. Our luff construction keeps the entry angle more uniform from tack to head - another competitive advantage! This sail has speed and point on the competition from 3-20 knots. A truly amazing All Purpose design.

Includes: telltales, vision window, draft stripes, class royalty and roll bag. (Furling Options Available)

Ensign #2 Genoa

The #2 is designed for the 18+ range when OD racing, or a perfect size and shape for the daysailing family. Being significantly flatter than the #1 Genoa it will keep the boat on its feet and makes it easy to drive without being overpowered when the puffs hit. You are driven forward, not sideways.

Includes: telltales, vision window, draft stripes, roll bag and class royalty. (Furling Options Available)

Ensign Blade Jib

This Heavy Air Blade is the perfect complement to our Class Genoas. Strong, durable and optimized for heavy air

Includes: telltales, vision window, draft stripes, roll bag and class royalty.

Ensign Spinnakers

Ensign Tri-radial Nylon Spinnaker

Our nylon spinnaker is a very durable, all-purpose design with maximum area for windward/leeward runs, but modified slightly to remain stable on tighter angles. Available in a variety of colors. Includes: Sail numbers, storage bag and class royalty. For customized layout or graphics, please contact a class expert or your local loft.

Ensign Tri-radial Superkote Spinnaker

The Superkote® spinnaker comes with a racing finish and is a little more user friendly in lighter air while maintaining its non-porous characteristics for a much longer period of time. Both spinnakers are designed with maximum area for windward / leeward runs, but modified slightly to remain stable on tighter angles. Available in a variety of colors.

Includes: Sail numbers, storage bag and class royalty. For customized layout or graphics, please contact a class expert or your local loft.

Doug Burtner

Doug Burtner has been making, selling, and servicing sails since 1998.

A true veteran of the sail making craft, Doug started making sails when he was 20 years old. After four years of making and repairing sails, he became the head salesman for Haarstick Sailmakers while still being involved with computer cutting, production, and inspection of all new sails.

Customers around Rochester know Doug for his positive approach to sailing, and they always enjoy having him on the boat with them. From small dinghies to large cruising yachts, he has knowledge of what the customer needs for maximum enjoyment. Part of his responsibilities also include managing our involvement with all Nonsuch and Collegiate FJ & 420 sails for all of Quantum Sails. Doug is also proud to be a big part of Quantum's Ensign class team, where he oversees production of all upwind sails.

In addition to his sail making skills, Doug is an expert in outfitting boats with cruising hardware. From sail tracks to custom furlers, Doug knows what works! A true customer advocate, Doug is always looking out for ways to make sailing more enjoyable and economical too.

When Doug is not making sails or sailing with customers, he's home working on his house and spending time with his three lovely ladies: wife, Erin, and two daughters, Charlotte and Caroline.
