After finishing in second place last year, Quantum Racing started the 52 SUPER SERIES in the lead, and they never backed down. On October 15, their hard work paid off as they reclaimed the SUPER SERIES title, finishing second at the Cascais Cup and first overall.

Having won the SUPER SERIES title in 2013 and 2014, Quantum Racing didn’t want to repeat their second place 2015 finish. Training relentlessly to improve their next performance and seeking perfection on and off the water, they set the stage for their 2016 domination when they won the pre-season warm-up regatta, the Gaastra Palma Vela. They continued to win throughout the season, including the Scarlino Cup (May 25-29), Audi Settimana delle Bocche (June 28-July 2), Puerto Portals Sailing Week (July 25-29), and the 52 World Championship (Sept. 14-18).

Though Quantum Racing didn’t finish first at the Cascais Cup this month, their overall results were enough to keep them in the lead and capture another 52 SUPER SERIES title. There’s no magic formula for what helped Quantum Racing revitalize the program after finishing in second last year. Their strategy is simple – work hard every day, continually pushing each other to improve.

Long-time Quantum Racing boss and president of Quantum Sails, Ed Reynolds said the victory actually reflects their strategy for the year. “The biggest thing we focused on this season was never crashing down to a big number in the race,” he said. “Everybody seems to focus on trying to be the fastest boat, but more often than not we’re not the fastest boat out there. But we’re never the slowest boat either. If you look back on our history, we didn’t win many races, but we rarely get out of the top four.”

That strategy definitely paid off in Cascais. Quantum Racing finished eight points behind Azzurra, but their season-long totals were enough to put them back on top of the podium.

Congratulations to everyone at Quantum Racing for a fantastic season!
