Melges 20 Miami Bacardi Sailing Week Report

Quantum® Sails Finish 1,3,5 at the Overall 2011 Miami Winter Series

By Scott Nixon, Quantum Annapolis

This past weekend in a beautiful and sunny Coconut Grove, Florida, the 2011 Miami Winter Series came to an exciting close with Quantum® customer Michael Kiss and his Bacio team taking the overall title for the second year in a row. The series was a culmination of three class events all held on Biscayne Bay starting in December and ending this past week with the Bacardi Sailing Week regatta.

Congratulations to team Bacio on USA 13 with helmsman Michael Kiss, son Mitchell Kiss as trimmer and tactician Chris Rast. This team had a very impressive 1, 5, 2 in the three-race series and has won all the major class events to date including Charleston Race Week and the US Nationals. Team Bacio—sailing with a full inventory of Quantum Melges 20 class sails—has displayed great speed, perfect boat handling and superior tactics enabling them to sail away from the crowded starting lines and mark roundings. As this very competitive class has grown, the Kiss team has been pushing hard with training, technique and development enabling them to stay on top of the class these past two years. Congratulations guys and keep up the great work!

Quantum® customer Tony Tabb on Elevation Racing with Steve Sisson and Justin Hood sailed a great winter circuit to take 3rd overall. This team is improving all the time so look for them to be competitive at the remaining 2011 class events. Marc Hollerbach and his fun team on Fu is always in the mix of the major regattas and pushing hard for the podium finishes. Fu took a solid 5th place in the series. This gave Quantum a 1,3,5 at the overall 2011 Miami Winter Series.
