Patrick Whitmarsh

Since he started sailing in 1984, Patrick has been hooked on the sport. Starting in Lasers and learning to sail larger keel boats at a young age, he’s spent the majority of his life out on the water. First at Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club on the waters of the Monterey Bay and then in the more extreme setting of the San Francisco Bay, sailing has taken me to destinations around the world.

Along the way Patrick has sailed in Australia as a junior on the Youth Match Race Tour and as an adult in the JJ Giltinan 18-foot-skiff championships, out to Hawaii on offshore races, as well as during his college years at University of Hawaii. Through Europe on the 49er Olympic circuit and aboard the TP-52 Rio, Patrick covered most of the waters of the old country, not to mention nearly every major sailing port in North America.

When not managing the Quantum Sails San Francisco, Patrick is focused on sailing one-design events as a tactician and racing offshore as a navigator.

Jeff Thorpe

Jeff Thorpe was eight years old when he started the Leo Robbins sailing program. The instructor told his dad that Jeff wasn’t cut out for sailing, but Jeff went back the next season and hasn’t stopped sailing since. Throughout high school he raced Sabots, Lasers, and Laser 2s. When it was time for college, he didn’t have the money, so he took a job building and racing Morc boats at Pinnacle Yacht Design Group.

Jeff stayed involved in the marine industry in a variety of ways, from an Olympic campaign with friends to fixing and rebuilding J/24s at his own shop to working in a sail loft. While working at the loft, he had the opportunity to sail on a J/125 with Quantum sails. Jeff was impressed with what he saw. He contacted Quantum Sails and told them he needed to work for them.

Today Jeff works as a sail consultant at the Quantum Pacific loft, giving his clients the attention to detail they need to find the right sails. With his extensive sailing history, he’s more than qualified to help others figure out exactly what they need to meet their goals. "I spent years running offshore racing programs, so I have a fair bit of knowledge that helps me provide my clients with a great resource when they have questions," said Jeff. "I make sure they understand all the options available to them to help them enjoy their sailing."

Jeff's sailing experience includes J/70, J/111, J/105, J/125, Melges 24, Olson 30, E-22, PHRF, ORR, IRC, TP 52, Santa Cruz 70, and Santa Cruz 52 classes, as well as offshore catamarans, cruising boats, and racing boats.

Will Paxton

A third generation sailor, Will Paxton started sailing when he was just six years old. He joined the Richmond Yacht Club junior program and never looked back, learning to crew and captain everything from commercial fishing vessels to international racing boats.

During college, Paxton worked at Sobstad Sails cutting parts and finishing membranes. When Sobstad became Quantum Pacific, he stayed on as a sailmaker before working his way up to production manager. Though he left sail making in 2001 to pursue a career in professional sailing and captaining, Paxton returned to Quantum Sails as a sail consultant in January 2013.

Paxton was happy to return to a company and product that he knows well, commenting that he feels fortunate to have a job doing what he loves to do most. Paxton's extensive knowledge of Quantum sails, coupled with his passion for sailing, make him an ideal candidate to help racers and cruisers get the most out of their sailing experiences.

Dan Roberts

Dan Roberts started sailing in 2007 when his father worked as a marine engine dealer. Through his father, Dan connected with the right people and learned to love the challenge of sailing. When he landed his first paid sailing gig, he wanted to prove his value, so he did some major main sail and jib recuts. When they won the national championship with those sails, Dan knew he’d found his career.

In June 2015, Dan joined the Quantum Sails to push himself and move on to the next challenge. An experienced service manager, he’s also an avid sailor with lots of experience on catamarans, skiffs, and with trimming sails.

As the service manager at the Quantum Pacific loft, customers can expect him to keep them on the water with the best sail repairs possible. “As a member of the Quantum team, I’m surrounded by people who are better than me,” said Dan. “It’s a pleasure to work with these professionals!”
