In his role as Chief Commercial Officer, Dave Gendell brings a unique combination of sailing, corporate leadership, and marine industry experience to Quantum's leadership team.

Having grown up in Annapolis, MD, Dave has extensive racing, cruising, and passage making experience. He earned his U.S. Coast Guard Captain's License at age 19 and first raced from Newport to Bermuda one week after graduating from college. Dave spent many years active on the racing scene including round-the-buoys campaigns in the Swan, Farr 40, J/35, and Laser classes. His offshore sailing experience includes races and passages aboard a Santa Cruz 70, Swan 70, Swan 68, J/145, J/44, Beneteau 40.7, and a Cambria 40.

Dave is the co-founder of SpinSheet, the Chesapeake Bay sailing magazine. He served as the magazine's editor for 12 years before embarking on a 17-year corporate career that included leadership positions at PayPal and Visa where he led business development and marketing teams and initiatives. In his most recent position at PayPal he led a 55-person advertising and marketing partnerships team with a global remit.

Dave is the co-owner of an Alerion 28 and has a soft spot for rescuing, restoring, and sailing old boats. The most recent rescue projects include a 1978 Laser and a Sunfish of questionable pedigree, both of which are patched up, buffed up, and sailed off the beach at Annapolis. He is also the author of three non-fiction books including "The Last Days of the Schooner America."

Julie Massaroni has been at Quantum Sails since 2015, overseeing brand, product, and marketing communications, and playing a large role in overall marketing strategy and event support. Having witnessed Quantum's growth and evolution over the past ten years, she not only has a deep understanding of the brand and the sailing industry as a whole, but also the opportunities and potential that exist within it.

"I'm really looking forward to better aligning and integrating our marketing efforts with the sales team and broader company goals. With our strong brand foundation paired with the incredible talent and passion among Quantum's ranks, there's a lot of potential to grow our presence and solidify our position in the market, especially in Europe. I want to build on what sets us apart: authentic engagement and support, proven performance, and a genuine love of sailing." says Julie.

Julie's trajectory to a career in marketing came from a desire to merge her analytical strengths with her creativity and artistic talents. She utilizes both assets in her creative and unique problem solving, utilizing available data to determine actionable insights while also creating strong work that people can connect with.
Julie came to Quantum with minimal sailing experience beyond cruising with friends. She started sailing her first week, joining Quantum's Libby Tomlinson's all-female team Knockout and has been an avid sailor ever since. While still racing with Libby on Wednesday nights as the mainsail trimmer on her J/92, Julie's sailing resume has grown to include some regional regatta podiums, a Chicago to Mackinac race, some Melges 24 sailing, and plenty of cruising. While she loves buoy racing and occasional one design sailing, offshore racing and cruising are her favorite.

As Chief Financial Officer at Quantum Sails, James Sandall combines his professional history in the marine industry with his own sailing experience. James grew up in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, learning to sail at the Napier Sailing Club on an Opti and a P-Class. He moved to Auckland for University and sailing opportunities and got his start in the Marine Industry at Southern Spars (NZ) before eventually moving abroad to Valencia, Spain for over two years, where he worked with Future Fibres as CFO.

James noted that "[In the sailing business], everyone is passionate about the products, the customers and the sport. Being a sailor myself, a financial career in the sail making industry seemed a natural fit."

Now back in Auckland, James spends his free time family cruising the northern coastline of NZ. His racing background includes multiple NZ national championship wins in Laser Radial, 420 team racing, F18 and Ross 780's and international titles in Laser Standard. He and his wife once sailed a Jeanneau 39 from NZ to the South Pacific, spending six months cruising Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Cal. He's looking forward to future racing and cruising opportunities now that he and his family are settled back in NZ.
