Quantum Sails welcomes Mark Reynolds as the company’s new Global Inshore One Design Director. Reynolds, a lifelong resident of San Diego, is well known for his accomplishments in the Star class including three Olympic medals.
In announcing the appointment, Quantum COO Doug Stewart says Mark Reynolds was tapped to fill the position based on his sailmaking background and success in building a loyal following for the inshore one design sails he builds, most notably for the Star and Snipe classes. “This role is an expansion of what’s Mark’s been doing very well for a long time.”
Reynolds concurs, noting, “This is not a huge change for me. I’ve been building sails and working with the Star and Snipe classes on an international level for a long time, which has allowed me to build a lot of connections in the international sailing community and also with Quantum’s global design team.” Looking forward, Mark says the main thing is to make the best products. “I really enjoy research and development and have been focusing on that extensively in recent years. It’s a logical move for me to apply my expertise into an international role for Quantum’s one design division. I’m looking forward to working with Quantum’s other production facilities, the one design team and serving as a more visible brand ambassador.”
Reynolds earned Olympic gold medals in the Star class in 1992 and 2000 and silver in 1988. He is also a Snipe class champion, having won a Pan Am Games gold medal, the US Nationals and North American championships. Also in the Star class, Reynolds won two world championships, seven Bacardi Cups and nine North American championships. More recently he has broadened his scope, sailing on Farr 40s, Melges 24s, and a leg of the Volvo Ocean Race. Last year, Reynolds helped coach the US Sailing Team in the Laser class at the Rio Olympic Games.
As Global Inshore Director, Mark will provide oversight for the company’s inshore one design program including customer support, sales and marketing, sail development, and program expansion.
