Lowell, I’m not sure exactly what your question is, but if you are asking about using vertical battens in your furling mainsail(s) they will help clean the leech up and keep the exit of the sail straight. However, since I believe your sail rolls up around the mast I am not sure that they would work. The bulk of the pocket and a hard object (batten) in the furled sail could create a chafe and wear problem when rolled up around the mast.
