Ed Reynolds and Quantum Sails

Ed Reynolds (Traverse City, Michigan) has been associated with Quantum Sails since 1996 and has served as the President of Quantum Sails since 2007. In addition to his sailmaking and corporate leadership abilities, Reynolds has been part of winning sailboat racing crews across the globe and is widely recognized as an innovative leader in the sailmaking industry and a leading figure on the sport of sailboat racing.

Ed Reynolds is moving into semi-retirement and stepped down from his role as President of Quantum Sails on December 31, 2025.

“I’m so proud of the way we started Quantum and the way it has been managed for the past 30 years," said Ed Reynolds. "When we started the company, we wanted to be completely different from the other businesses serving the marine industry. We knew sailing as a sport and the business of sailmaking were ripe for innovation and new technology and we built the structure of the company on this foundation. But at the same time, we didn’t ever want to put what we were doing behind the scenes with innovation and technology ahead of customer experience. We built the company to make the process of buying and using sails more fun, easier, and with better outcomes for our customers and the people who sailed with them. This ethos continues to this day.

Ed Reynolds will continue his association with Quantum Sails with a specific focus on Quantum’s ongoing support of its customers in grand prix racing classes. When the 2026 52 Super Series gets underway, in May 2026 at Puerto Portals, Spain, Reynolds and an expert team from Quantum Sails will be on hand to provide support, coaching, and service.

“I first got to know Ed Reynolds in 2024 as the North Technology Group began the process of acquiring Quantum Sails. I was immediately impressed with the business and brand that Ed helped build and led. As I got to know him personally, I was always struck by his warmth and humility. Ed clearly has a deep passion and intellect for the sailmaking business and his list of accomplishments back that up, yet he remains one of the most friendly and humble people I have ever met. It has been a pleasure working with Ed and I look forward to continuing our association.”
Sam Watson, Chief Executive Officer of North Technology Group

“I met Ed Reynolds long before Quantum Sails, in the 1980’s when we were building our careers both on and off the water. At that young age, Ed had, not only a great eye for sail shape, but a unique knack of putting together great teams with great success. When the opportunity arose to lead Quantum Sails, he brought that same eye and knack to the role. He did a great job in not only moving our product forward, but in building a strong team around him. He leaves Quantum with an excellent platform to continue to move forward, in now what is a fast-moving industry. I look forward in continuing to work with Ed.”
Farley Fontenot, Quantum Sails Founding Partner and head of operations, Quantum Sails Gulf Coast, Seabrook, Texas

“Ed Reynolds a legend of sailmaking, an elite leader of teams both on and off the water, and an honest and open friend and colleague. It has been a pleasure working alongside him for these past 16 years. But this is not goodbye. Ed has so much valuable knowledge and experience to share with this generation of sailors and the next. I speak on behalf of the entire Quantum team in reiterating that everyone at Quantum Sails is looking forward to an ongoing, long-term relationship with Ed Reynolds.”

Andrew Scott and Quantum Sails

Quantum’s new President, Andrew Scott (Annapolis, Maryland), began working for his father’s sail loft as a boy. With deep experience in all aspects of the sailmaking trade and business, Scott also logged 10 years as a professional sailor competing in the 2003 America’s Cup trials with Team Stars & Stripes, finishing second in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the Star Class, and winning multiple championships as a sailing team member in the TP52 Super Series.

“I am thrilled with this opportunity and to continue serving Quantum’s customers and partners around the world," said Andrew Scott. "The Quantum brand has always stood for leadership in innovation and collaboration. This is a reputation we will continue to live up to. Quantum has a great team in place, well-established design, production and support capabilities, and a pipeline of sailmaking innovations scheduled to be released in the coming months. Quantum is well-positioned going forward and look forward to serving our current customers and partners as we invest to grow the business.”

Andrew Scott joined Quantum in 2009 as Vice President of Operations and Quality Control. The standards he designed for Quantum’s production processes are still in use today. As Quantum’s Chief Operating Officer, Scott has been deeply involved in all aspects of the business.

“Quantum Sails is an important part of the North Technology Group’s family of companies. Quantum had the largest revenue year in its history in 2025. Given his experience and track record, Andrew Scott is the clear choice to lead Quantum forward. We look to Andrew and Quantum to continue to drive business results but also continue to be at the forefront of innovation in sailmaking. Growth and expanded presence in Europe will be an important 2026 focus for Andrew and the team. At the same time, Quantum’s ongoing commitment to supporting the sport of sailing around the world—through unique partnerships, meaningful sponsorships, and an apprentice program—will continue to thrive under Andrew’s leadership.”
Sam Watson, Chief Executive Officer, North Technology Group

“I have had the opportunity to work closely with Andrew and his team for a year. I am deeply impressed by the culture of operational excellence Andrew has instilled at Quantum and I am fully confident in his leadership going forward. Quantum is in good hands.”
Luca Delfino, Chief Commercial Officer, North Technology Group

“I have worked closely with Andrew Scott for more than 16 years, on a day-to-day basis the entire time. Andrew is an extraordinary combination of sailor, sailmaker, production expert, operations leader, and authentic innovator. Andrew’s expertise in each of these areas is incredible and his enthusiasm and passion are obvious. Andrew has a long-term track record of bringing meaningful technological innovation to all aspects of sailmaking but never loses sight of the customer experience and customer outcomes while sailing with Quantum sails. Andrew is the perfect choice to lead Quantum Sails forward. I look forward to continuing to work with Andrew and the Quantum team in the coming years.”
