Quantum Sails is proud to introduce Electra, our next-generation tri-radial material engineered for racers who demand more: more speed, more stability, more longevity, and more confidence on every point of sail. Designed with Quantum's proprietary iQ Technology and advanced by decades of Grand Prix performance data, Electra brings membrane-like capability to a durable, versatile tri-radial platform built specifically for buoy, inshore, and distance racers sailing boats under 45 feet.
Grand Prix Intelligence, Optimized for Your Racing
At the heart of Electra is the same analytical approach that powers our most elite racing programs. Using iQ Technology, Quantum designers model, test, and refine every detail, from panel layout to fiber orientation to aerodynamic shaping, long before the sail ever hits the water.
The result is a tri-radial sail tuned with precision to your boat and your racing conditions, translating top-tier intelligence directly into real performance gains.
"Electra started as a performance question: how do we bring membrane-level performance to a tri-radial platform, and by extension, more sailors?" says Doug Stewart, Quantum's VP of Design. "The answer was a complete redesign from the fiber out. Using our advanced iQ Technology design software, we tested and optimized the materials and layouts to maximize performance across a wide range of boats and conditions. These sails deliver the speed, stability, and durability racers have been asking for—and deserve."
Built for Power and Control
Electra's defining feature is its dual-fiber matrix, engineered to strike a balance between raw power and exceptional control. At its core lies a primary warp layer of lightweight, high-strength aramid or ultra-high-performance carbon fibers running in a straight load path—delivering the stability and responsiveness racers rely on. Supporting this is a secondary X-ply layer of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UPE) fibers run at +/- 60. Known for their durability, UV resistance, and minimal stretch, UPE fibers add critical off-axis stability to maintain sail efficiency when conditions get challenging.
Racers can tailor Electra's performance profile by choosing between aramid for balanced strength and shape retention, or carbon for maximum stability under load, then let iQ optimize the rest.
Strength, Stability, and Longevity
Electra's dark gray matte finish presents an impressive visual, but its real beauty is in its engineering. The dual-fiber matrix is protected by ultra-light 1 mil matte films that reduce stretch, improve durability, and shield internal fibers from UV, salt, and abrasion. Together, these components create a tri-radial sail that maintains its designed shape longer, season after season, race after race.
The high DPI (Denier Per Inch) construction ensures more structural fibers packed into each panel, increasing stability and extending performance life — key attributes for sailors who depend on consistent shape and speed.
"We wanted to take everything we've learned at the highest levels of racing and make it available to every sailor," says Quantum COO Andrew Scott. "Electra is that bridge: real performance gains in a durable, versatile, high-performing package."
Designed with Intention. Built for Racers.
Electra was made for the sailors who show up early, leave late, and know exactly what they want out of their sails. It's fast. It's tough. And it's intentionally engineered for real-world racing—whether you're grinding through buoy turns on Thursday night, chasing pressure across a long leg offshore, or fighting to hold lane off a competitive start line.
"Electra gives racers, both inshore and off, access to tech that used to be out of reach," says Jason Currie, Quantum Sails' US Sales Manager. "It's fast, tough, and built with intention. It's exciting to support this passionate group of sailors with new products and technology."
A New Standard in Tri-Radial Performance
Electra advances tri-radial sailmaking with data-driven design, precision engineering, and a focus on what racers need most. It brings breakthrough materials and engineering to sailors who want high performance without sacrificing versatility, handling, or durability. Because every sailor deserves access to the technologies that win races.
