Quantum Sails is proud to continue our partnership with PGN Ocean Racing and offshore sailor, Peter Gibbons-Neff Jr., as he begins his next campaign in the Mini Class, targeting the 2027 Mini Transat. Building on an established relationship, this next chapter represents a continued evolution in both sail design and offshore performance at the highest level of the sport.
A Marine Corps officer and offshore racer, Peter Gibbons-Neff Jr. campaigns solo at the highest level while serving as an ambassador for U.S. Patriot Sailing. His program blends high-performance ocean racing with a mission to support and reconnect veterans through sailing. "Since U.S. Patriot Sailing was there for me when I needed it most, my mission now is to give back to the team to help more veterans navigate their own challenges through sailing," said Gibbons-Neff Jr.
At the center of the Mini Transat campaign is a brand-new foiling platform, currently under construction, pushing the cutting edge of short-handed offshore racing. These high-performance boats demand a new level of precision in sail design, where performance and structure must work seamlessly across extreme apparent wind angles, high loads, and constantly shifting sailing modes.
"Designing sails for a foiling Mini is a really exciting challenge," said Gildas Dubois, Quantum sail designer and Mini Transat expert. "The loads and speeds are amplified, and the apparent wind angles are smaller. It pushes us to refine every detail of the design and structure so the sails stay stable and fast across a huge range of conditions."
For Quantum, partnerships like this are more than campaign support; they are a critical part of the company's broader design philosophy. Collaborating with sailors across the sport drives innovation across the global sailmaking network, advancing materials, construction techniques, and aerodynamic design in ways that benefit sailors at every level. From other Mini Transat sailors, including Alicia De Pfyffer, to a multihull performance cruising build-from-scratch with SV Delos, the Quantum Team is working to bring performance to every platform.
"I'm incredibly excited to be working with the Quantum team again," said Gibbons-Neff. "Their approach to sail design and performance gives me a ton of confidence as we build out this program. The new boat is going to be fast, and I'm really looking forward to getting the sails onboard and feeling how the whole package comes together."
As the program moves toward launch, the renewed partnership reflects a shared commitment to pushing boundaries at the intersection of performance and design, and every detail is developed to compete at the front of the fleet in 2027.
