Becky Furry started sailing in her 20s after a major injury took her out of playing soccer at the University of Rochester. She quickly fell in love with the sport of sailing and became more involved when she relocated to Annapolis, MD, and took a job as a pediatric nurse practitioner at the National Institutes of Health. She has enjoyed everything from Wednesday night racing with friends to crewing on Melges 20, Melges 24, Melges 32, Mumm 30, Farr 40, J/70, C Scow, and E Scow teams.
In 2006, Becky met her husband and partner in Sail22, Ed Furry. They started Sail22 in 2007. Both serve as a bit of a one-design concierge service, helping with everything from sails and boats to custom parts and on-site regatta support. While they are based in Culver, IN, they spend much of the year traveling to major regattas with the Sail22 van, which is fully equipped with everything sailors might need while competing.
Becky has also spent a great amount of time on the water as a sailing photographer, and currently owns Always Images, a fine art family portrait studio. She serves as one of the founding board members of the nonprofit foundation Maxinkuckee Adventure Sailing, which brings sailing opportunities to children and adults. Becky and Ed have three children, Cole, Lucy, and Nora, who keep them very busy and bring lots of fun to their everyday lives. They now have a family Melges 15, and Becky says "We have a blast watching the kids enjoy the sport. I can't wait to hand over the tiller to one of the kids."
