About Sail22

Sail22 is a one design sailing specialist and concierge service for small and large sailboat teams. Sail22, LLC was founded by sailors to help make racing sailboats easier. From the beginning, the company’s trademarked motto has been: Always Happy. Never Satisfied.® In life and work, Becky and Ed strive to always be happy and never satisfied. This can mean many things, but for Sail22 and the service Ed and Becky provide the community, it is to never be satisfied with average when they can always do better.

When you contact Sail22, LLC with a question, concern, or request, there is a high probability either Becky or Ed will respond. In an industry and time where it’s nearly impossible to speak directly to the person in-charge, at Sail22, LLC sailors needing help will receive support from a fellow sailor who cares about the sport as much as they do.

Ed Furry

Ed Furry grew up in South Bend, IN, and spent summers in Culver, IN, where he learned to sail. In high school, he played travel soccer, basketball, and tennis and thought his future would be on the soccer pitch. After beginning his college education at Xavier University, Ed took a break and picked up sailing jobs in San Diego, Bitter End YC in the BVI, American YC in Rye, NY, and as manager of KO Sailing in Seabrook, TX, before starting his sailmaking career with Quantum Sails in Seabrook. After spending some time with Quantum, Ed went back to school in San Diego and worked for North Sails One Design.

Ed then left sailmaking and moved back to Indiana to finish college at Indiana University. After graduating, he was coaxed back into the sailing business by a few opportunities to captain Farr 40s and then run the TP52 Morning Light during the filming of the documentary by the same name. That experience gave him the chance to buy a farm in Culver, IN, in 2007, and start Sail22 with his wife Becky Furry.

Over the many years Ed and Becky have had Sail22, they've established great relationships working directly with owners and the sailing industry's biggest companies. Being a smaller company provides them with the flexibility to change with the times, making Sail22 a valuable part of the industry. Ed and Becky spend a lot of time on the road supporting teams and events. "St. Petersburg, FL, has been our winter base with Culver home for the rest of the year when we are not at major championships," Ed said. "Running tuning events is our newest focus as I have been the PRO this past year for many events from RS21 North Americans and the VXOne Winter Series to Davis Island J/70 Tuning Regattas."

Becky Furry

Becky Furry started sailing in her 20s after a major injury took her out of playing soccer at the University of Rochester. She quickly fell in love with the sport of sailing and became more involved when she relocated to Annapolis, MD, and took a job as a pediatric nurse practitioner at the National Institutes of Health. She has enjoyed everything from Wednesday night racing with friends to crewing on Melges 20, Melges 24, Melges 32, Mumm 30, Farr 40, J/70, C Scow, and E Scow teams.

In 2006, Becky met her husband and partner in Sail22, Ed Furry. They started Sail22 in 2007. Both serve as a bit of a one-design concierge service, helping with everything from sails and boats to custom parts and on-site regatta support. While they are based in Culver, IN, they spend much of the year traveling to major regattas with the Sail22 van, which is fully equipped with everything sailors might need while competing.

Becky has also spent a great amount of time on the water as a sailing photographer, and currently owns Always Images, a fine art family portrait studio. She serves as one of the founding board members of the nonprofit foundation Maxinkuckee Adventure Sailing, which brings sailing opportunities to children and adults. Becky and Ed have three children, Cole, Lucy, and Nora, who keep them very busy and bring lots of fun to their everyday lives. They now have a family Melges 15, and Becky says "We have a blast watching the kids enjoy the sport. I can't wait to hand over the tiller to one of the kids."
