Jim Harrington is a seasoned sailor with over twenty years of hands-on experience. His shop, North Shore Sails and Canvas, specializes in custom sails and canvas products for boats of all sizes.
Jim grew up in Larchmont, NY before moving to Newport, RI for over 20yrs. He started Junior Sailing at Horseshoe Harbor Yacht Club in New York, sailing Opti's, Blue Jays, Lasers, Shields, Sonars and Rhodes 19s. He spent his time sailing in New England around Narragansett Bay on his Ensign. After several years off the water, sailmaking restarted his interest in sailing.
Jim got his start in sail making in Portsmouth, RI as a floor worker and quickly moved to supervisor. In 2015, he moved to Massachusetts to manage a loft in Salem. After some time working as a service writer and outboard sales associate, Jim started North Shore Sails and Canvas in 2024 in Essex, MA.
Jim specializes in getting the most life out of sails and canvas with the most practical repairs. He can handle it all, whether it is catastrophic repairs from storm damage, spinnaker blowouts from boats ranging from 13' - 190', or reshaping sails for better performance, conversions, or general maintenance. North Shore Sails and Canvas prioritizes the customer's experience above all else. That shared precedent is what brought Jim and Quantum Sails together. Jim is looking forward to a long relationship with Quantum, their customers and being able to introduce his current customers to new, quality products.
