Marco Savelli

Marco Savelli grew up in Livorno, Italy, near Tuscany, and still lives there today. He began sailing Snipes when he was 10 and continued on to win four National Championships and one European Championship in the class.

He pursued a law degree at Florence University, but quickly realized his passion was sailing. So, he started an Olympic campaign in the Flying Dutchman Class and competed in the 1980 Olympics. In 1981, he finished third in the Flying Dutchman World Championship. During this time, he also began working as a sailmaker and sail designer.

Savelli proudly worked as the principal sail designer for the America's Cup Challenger Mascalzone Latino during two campaigns. He currently serves as the vice president of the Mascalzone Latino team. During his years as a sail designer and coach, he won many races, including the Quarter Ton Cup, Melges 24 World Championship, ORC World Championship, and Rolex Middle Sea Race.

In the early 2000s, Savelli applied his sailing and industry knowledge to develop and patent a one-piece continuous yarn membrane for sailmaking. In 2017, he patented a type of monolithic membrane build process. Savelli is excited to bring his wealth of sailing, sail design, and sailmaking knowledge to Quantum Sails.
