Richard Reid on Zingara and Cesar Gomes Neto on Portobello won the Melges 24 and Melges 20 divisions of the 2014 Lake Ontario Championship at the Redpath Toronto Area Hospice Regatta last weekend. Reid raced consistently, placing in the top three in seven out of eight races to win by a seven point margin. He also competed in the Beneteau First 36.7 Canadian Championship, winning five of the eight races to claim a second overall win for the weekend.
In the Melges 20 division, Quantum sailors took the top two spots, with Hiroshi Kurokawa on Spray taking second place behind Portobello. Portobello’s crew included John Bowden and Ed Norton, while Kurokawa raced his first event with a brand new set of Quantum sails. Between the two teams, they won seven of the eight races, beating out eleven other teams to win their class.
