It’s a Wrap: 2014 Sperry Top-Sider Charleston Race Week

The 19th edition of Sperry Top-Sider Charleston Race Week, April 11-13, lived up to its reputation as one of the great regattas in North America. The event provided racing for over 2,000 racers in 16 separate classes, including for the first time, a gathering of offshore multihulls. The event drew competitors from 27 states and five continents, from as far away as New Zealand, Scandinavia, Brazil, Guatemala, Australia and Peru.

The J/70 fleet was 80 boats strong.

Quantum joined the event this year as corporate sponsor and official sailmaker, offering onsite sail repair services, hospitality venues, and daily debriefs with America’s Cup winner and Quantum Racing helmsman Ed Baird.

On the water, Quantum-powered teams had a great event with several taking home some new hardware. This year, the Palmetto Cup–the award for the best overall performance by a boat in the handicap classes–went to Quantum customer John Cooper, owner of Cool Breeze, a custom Mills 43 out of Lake Stockton, Missouri.

In the highly competitive J/70 class (80 boats at CRW) Rob Britts and team on Hot Mess continued to impress with another Corinthian title and second place overall. This achievement comes on the heels of his Corinthian win and second place finish at the Quantum J/70 Winter Series at Davis Island Yacht Club. Click here for interview with Britts after his win.

Thanks to all Quantum customers who came out to support the event!
