Quantum Racing at the TP52 Worlds

"We're Quantum Racing and We Are Here To Beat You..."
Quantum's factory racing team has certainly garnered a lot of attention this past year as they showed their heels to the world's best with a dominating performance in the Audi MedCup Circuit (prompting this tongue in cheek headline in Scuttlebutt as they raised the question of whether a sailmaker should be allowed as a sponsor). None, however, has been more appreciated than the comments of their fellow competitors as they completed their season's effort with an overwhelming win at the TP 52 World Championships in Puerto Calero.
They won by 16 points over second place Mutua Madrilena (Vasco Vascotto skipper) without having to sail the last race. In a fleet this deep and this talented, where every other position was separated by the smallest of margins, it was truly an unbelievable performance. Germany's Platoon with Jochen Schuemann at the helm beat out Artemis (Russell Coutts) by .25 for the final podium position.
The World Championship victory capped a season where for the first time a sailmaking company and a group of sailors put their resources and reputations on the line to prove that there is a credible alternative in the world of grand prix sailmaking. Let there be no doubt, they were on a mission. Hard work and a unprecedented level of teamwork between designers, mast builders, sailmakers, shore support, and sailors proved the difference and proved the point. They may have started as underdogs (the only one of 22 boats to use Quantum), but they were subtle as a hammer when it came to going after their goals. "First of all, I have to admit that the boat that won sailed the best. Quantum Racing did a great job throughout the season and this World Championships is a fitting gift to them. Congratulations to Quantum , the crew and their entire team."
   - Vasco Vascotto, skipper of Mutua Madrilena
"Without any doubt the best team is Quantum, they are the most consistent, they and the best performance and probably nobody could have beaten them."
   - Jochen Schuemann, helmsman of Platoon
"I was very impressed with Quantum Racing sailed their boat. They are obviously way ahead of everyone else and I was surprised to see that. They are to be congratulated on a great result."
   - Russell Coutts, tactician on Artemis
"Quantum is showing superior sailing skill really. Their boat is fast but so is ours. Today they scored a 1, 3. They are just sailing smart and doing it consistently and it is paying off big. No one else is even close really."
   - Paul Cayard, helmsman on Desafio
